## Formula

- Order total = item price × quantity + shipping charged + gift wrap.
- Listing fee = $0.20 × quantity (converted from USD).
- Transaction fee = 6.5% × order total.
- Payment processing = (order total + sales tax) × rate + fixed fee (US 3% + $0.25).
- Offsite Ads (only for orders from the ads) = 15% or 12% × order total, max $100.
- Regulatory operating fee = country rate × order total (UK, FR, IT, ES, CA and others).
- Profit = order total − Etsy fees − shipping label − packaging − item cost × quantity.

## Payment processing by shop location

- United States: 3% + $0.25
- United Kingdom: 4% + £0.20; regulatory fee 0.48%
- Canada: 3% + CA$0.25; regulatory fee 0.5%
- Australia: 3% + A$0.25
- Germany: 4% + €0.30
- France: 4% + €0.30; regulatory fee 1.14%
- Italy: 4% + €0.30; regulatory fee 0.8%
- Spain: 4% + €0.30; regulatory fee 0.88%
- Netherlands: 4% + €0.30

## Worked example

1. Order total: $28.00 item + $5.50 shipping = $33.50
2. Transaction fee: 6.5% × $33.50 = $2.18
3. Payment processing: 3% × $33.50 + $0.25 = $1.26
4. Listing fee: One listing renewal after the sale = $0.20
5. Your profit: $33.50 − $3.64 fees − $5.10 label − $9.80 cost = $14.96

## FAQ

### Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing apply to the shipping you charge the buyer, and to gift wrap. Free shipping does not avoid fees: the cost simply moves into your item price.

### When do Offsite Ads apply?

Only when a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site (Google, Instagram and others) and buys within 30 days. The fee is 15% of the order total, or 12% if your shop made more than $10,000 in the past 12 months (then it is also mandatory), and never more than $100 per order.

### Is the listing fee charged again after a sale?

Yes. A listing costs $0.20 for 4 months, and when an item sells Etsy renews the listing automatically for another $0.20. Selling three of the same item in one order means three listing fees.

### Which currency are fees charged in?

The listing fee is set in US dollars and converted to your currency (we use the European Central Bank reference rate). Other fees are a percentage of the sale in your listing currency. If your listing currency differs from your payment account currency, Etsy adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee.

### What is the regulatory operating fee?

A small percentage Etsy adds in some countries to cover the cost of local digital services taxes and regulations. It applies to the order total for shops based in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Canada and a few other countries.

### How often are these rates checked?

A script reads Etsy's fee policy and help pages every day and compares them with our data. A rate only changes here when two official sources agree; anything that does not match is reviewed by a person. See [how we verify rates](https://net-sale.org/how-we-verify-rates/).
